Amrutha Shishu Nivasa was founded in 1942 by a group of philanthropists and public spirited men and women. It started functioning in a small rented house in Shankarapuram, an old residential area in Bengaluru. Later in 1958, it was shifted to the present building built on the site provided by Government of Karnataka.
The idea of the founding-fathers was to put an end to female infanticide, also to shelter and support orphan / abandoned infants, from day-one onwards. The children referred to by the Child Welfare Committee [CWC], Makkala Sahaya Vani [Child help line] in addition to the ones abandoned at the road or left at the gates of the Shishunivasa are given shelter and solace.
Amrutha Shishu Nivasa has an excellent record of serving the needs of orphan childern for more than 75 years. The Management appeals to philanthropic public to render financial and other support as they have been doing all along.
